SenseLAB
Citronella Essential Oil
Cymbopogon
Plant and Oil Description
Best known for its use in all-natural insect repellents, pure citronella oil has a pleasing citrus and floral fragrance that is also commonly used for perfumes, cosmetics, room fresheners, and aromatherapy. The oil is harvested from the leaves and stems of a tall grass found in Indonesia. Citronella is closely related to lemongrass, and is most easily distinguished by its red stems.
What’s it Good For?
- Insect repellent – Citronella’s reputation precedes itself when it comes to all-natural insect repellents. Make your own insect repellent using SenseLAB’s citronella oil, combine with other natural mosquito repellents—such as SenseLAB’s eucalyptus, lemongrass, rosemary, and tea tree oils—for maximum protection.
- Weight loss – Laboratory studies suggest that citronella oil may help decrease appetite, lower cholesterol, and promote weight loss. Add our citronella oil to a diffuser or vaporizer and inhale the scent for aromatherapy benefits. Increase your chance of success by adding SenseLAB’s grapefruit oil, which has shown similar weight loss effects.
- Accelerated wound healing – Citronella may act as a catalyst for wound healing by a combination of antifungal and anti-inflammatory effects. Carefully apply our citronella oil to the affected areas with a carrier oil.
- Stress and fatigue – Using our citronella oil in an aromatherapy treatment may help reduce stress and fatigue. Clinical evidence shows that inhaling citronella oil may result in higher alpha and beta brain waves and significant decreases in heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate. Add SenseLAB’s citronella oil to a diffuser or vaporizer, or dilute with a carrier oil and use in a massage.
- Room freshener – The lemony and slightly sweet scent of citronella oil is perfect for creating your own room freshening spray. Dilute our citronella oil in a spray bottle with water and combine with complementary aromas to give any room an instant makeover.
How to Use It?
Dilute with a carrier oil and apply to the skin to use as an insect repellent. Add to a diffuser or vaporizer to aid in weight loss, stress management, and to reduce fatigue. Apply to minor wounds with a carrier oil to accelerate healing time. Create your own room freshening spray by diluting our citronella oil with water in a spray bottle. Pairs well with rose, peppermint, spearmint, grapefruit, eucalyptus, lemongrass, rosemary, and tea tree oils.
